March 5
What’s the hangup?
10:39 p.m. — 2500 block of GMD.
Abandoned 911 Call. Police searched the area after receiving a 911 hang-up call.

March 6
Time is on his side
12:59 a.m. — 200 block of GMD.
Suspicious Person. A man was walking around a shopping area after hours. He told police that he had been riding his bicycle from Bradenton to Sarasota after spending the evening at his aunt’s house in Bradenton. He doesn’t have a home in Sarasota, but sometimes spends the night with a friend. He was in no hurry to get back to Sarasota because the Salvation Army doesn’t open for breakfast until 8 a.m. Police warned him not to camp overnight on the Key.

Strike one
11:54 a.m. — 5300 block of GMD. Property Damage. A tree limb broke in a resort parking lot and struck a woman’s rental car, causing $1,500 in damage.

March 8
Moonlit stroll
11:57 p.m. — 3400 block of GMD.
Trespassing. Police warned a man and woman who were on the beach after hours.

March 9
Hit and run
12:38 a.m. — 300 block of GMD.
Hit and Run. A security guard raised the entry gate for a driver who struck one of the gate poles and scuffed the paint, but continued to drive down the road. Police couldn’t locate the vehicle or its driver.

Lost in translation
2:41 a.m. — Gulf of Mexico Drive and Longboat Club Road. Public Service. A man who appeared lost and spoke broken English couldn’t explain to police why he was parked on the side of the road. He didn’t have a driver’s license, so he took a taxi home.

Watch dog
6:52 a.m. — 6800 block of Longboat Drive S. Dog Nuisance. A woman whose dog was barking said that the dog normally doesn’t bark, but was being more vocal because her husband wasn’t at home.

Problem solved
11:02 p.m. — 6900 block of Bayside Drive. Disturbance. A man wanted police to turn off a loud boat generator for disturbing the peace, but while police discussed it with him, someone turned it to a lower speed, which satisfied him.

March 10
That’s how they roll
3:22 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road.
Suspicious Vehicle. A citizen flagged down police to say that people parked their vehicle at the post office and were headed to Town Hall with skateboards. Police couldn’t find the alleged skateboarders.

March 11
Time for bed
1:36 a.m. — 600 block of Cedar St.
Disturbance. A man complained that people on a moored boat were talking loudly and playing a movie on the deck while he was trying to sleep. An officer didn’t have a boat available but turned on his overhead lights in hopes that the people would get the message.

Call of the wild
5:27 a.m. — 6900 block of Poinsetta Ave. Suspicious Circumstance. Officers checked out reports from two separate callers who said they heard a woman screaming while running down the street. The sound was possibly caused by fighting animals or peacocks.

Runaway raccoon
12:45 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Property Damage. A raccoon ran in front of a man’s vehicle, causing $1,500 to the front grill.

Traveling light
3:32 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Property Found. A store employee turned in a wallet found a few days earlier that hadn’t been claimed and had an Oregon driver’s license inside.

Take it outside … the gates
6:36 p.m. — 2100 block of GMD. Disturbance. Two motorcyclists entered a property after a guard let a taxi inside a property, and an argument between a motorcyclist and the taxi driver ensued. Both the motorcyclist and the driver left the scene before police arrived.

March 12
Someone was thirsty
11:11 a.m. — 5100 block of GMD.
Larceny. Public Works put a lock on a water meter because of an outstanding bill. The lock was still in place, but someone stole 8,000 gallons of water by tampering with the supply lines.
