JULY 1

HIDE AND SEEK
9:07 a.m. — 400 block of GMD
Assist Other Agency: Police were asked to assist a Sarasota County deputy apprehend a man with a warrant out for his arrest who was staying on a boat on the island. Police located the boat at a Key marina but couldn’t locate the subject. A short time later, police realized the man and another man were in the cabin. They wouldn’t exit the boat for 20 minutes. The man finally surrendered to police. His friend had no warrants and was free to go.

DOOR SCRATCHES
4:18 p.m. — 7100 block of Longboat Drive North
Burglary: A homeowner calling from Maine told police his neighbor informed him his front door was tampered with.  Police observed some words and paint surrounding the deadbolt to the door was scraped away. Police couldn’t find any fingerprints and determined the house was secure. The home was added to a residential house checklist.

JULY 2

BOGUS COURT SUMMONS
9:50 a.m. — 100 block of Sand Point Road
Fraud: A condo manager told police she received a suspicious email asking her to appear in court July 6 and wanted to make a report of the email. Police obtained a copy of the fraudulent email for further review.

STOLEN MANNEQUIN
2:08 p.m. — 1100 block of Bogey Lane
Larceny: A woman reported the theft of a United Parcel Service package that was placed on her porch. She told police a $41.85 male torso mannequin she ordered was inside the box.

GARDENING WARS
5:02 p.m. — 1000 block of Bogey Lane
Disturbance: A woman reported she had a spat with her neighbor when she returned home after a two-week trip after she found tree trimmings that landed on her property while she was gone had killed her grass. They were advised to contact police if they had future arguments.

JULY 3

LOVER’S QUARREL
5:04 a.m. — 1900 block of Harbourside Drive
Disturbance: A man told police he got into an argument with his live-in fiancée due to his fiancée drinking too much tequila and wine. When she complained about a cluttered closet, he threw items into the hallway. She then scraped, hit or kicked a metal basket left in the hallway and cut her foot. After much debate about who should leave the house for the night, the man agreed to leave and stay with his fiancée’s sister and brother-in-law for the night. The fiancée was adamant that she was moving out the next day.

ARGUMENT COOL DOWN
1:28 p.m. — 2600 block of Harbourside Drive
Disturbance: Police responded to the area of a 911 hangup call, and a boater in the marina told police a man in his Jaguar was having an argument with four other men a short time ago. The man was found and told police he hung up because the heated argument dissipated and the men left.

JULY 4

HOLIDAY HIT AND RUN
5:20 p.m. — 6800 block of GMD
Traffic Accident: A man told police a customer backed into his car in a plaza parking lot and fled the area without leaving a note behind. Police are still investigating the incident.

JULY 7

UNWELCOME VISITORS
11:10 a.m. — 5400 block of GMD
Public Service: A woman told police she saw Jet Skis riding within 300 feet of the beach at a high rate of speed and urinating on nearby shrubbery when they came to shore. Marine patrol was told to look for the subjects.

PLANT PROBLEM
12:52 p.m. — 500 block of Putting Green Lane
Larceny: A property owner’s caretaker confirmed for police that 11 Indian Hawthorne plants valued at more than $200 were taken from his home and some replacement plants also went missing. Neighbors promised to keep an eye on the home.

SUN SHOWER
1:33 p.m. — 7000 block of GMD
Public Service: A woman told police that one of her tenants reported seeing a nude man attempting to clean himself off in a complex dumpster. He was gone before police arrived.

LIGHTS OUT
5:06 p.m. — 2100 block of GMD
Fire: Firefighters/paramedics informed police that a transformer blew on Gulf of Mexico Drive and caught on fire. The transformer needed replacing, and some parts of the Key were without power for several hours.
