July 3
Looking for a break
11:52 a.m. — 300 block of N. Shore Road. Property Damage. A man reported that an unknown person knocked over his mailbox. Police couldn’t determine how the post had been broken.

July 5
Nothing’s amiss
1:28 a.m. — 600 block of Linley Street. Suspicious Circumstance. Police noticed a van with several valuables inside and an open door. The owner said nothing was missing and that his children might have left the door open when the family returned home the night before from fireworks.

Beach borrower
12:08 p.m. — Linley Street. Suspicious Circumstance. A citizen flagged down police to report that a kayaker didn’t have a paddle and had removed one from a dinghy that was beached in the area. The woman admitted to taking the paddle and said she planned to return it when she got back to shore. Police returned the paddle for her.

Adjustment period
11:51 p.m. — 3400 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A man called police because another man was taking a picture of his license plate so that he could report him for urinating on the beach. The man insisted he wasn’t urinating but, rather, readjusting his swimming trunks and tying the drawstring.

July 7
Symbolic act
8:19 a.m. — 200 block of North Shore Road. Vandalism. An unknown person damaged two no-parking signs by spray painting an unknown symbol in red.

July 8
Keep it down
2:32 a.m. — 500 block of Jessmyth Drive. Disturbance. When police responded to a noise complaint, a juvenile female told police there had been a group by the pool earlier that may have been talking loudly. The girl’s mother said everyone was inside and there wouldn’t be any further noise.

Spreading the word
10:29 a.m. — Intersection of Bogey Lane and Wedge Lane. Soliciting. Police received a report of two women going door to door. The women told police they were passing out information and media for a religious group and weren’t selling anything or asking for donations. Police didn’t find any violation of town ordinances.

Rocking the boat
9:20 p.m. — 800 block of Broadway. Domestic Disturbance. A couple was on a boat and saw a man choking and beating his girlfriend on another boat. Police traveled to the boat and found marks on both the man and woman, although the man insisted his marks came from cutting himself on barnacles. The man was arrested after the couple identified him as the person who was beating the woman.

July 9
Return to the sea
10:45 p.m. — 4100 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A caller reported that a suspicious boat pulled up to a dock, and a man exited the boat, walked onto the dock, then jumped back on the boat and left.

July 11
It can wait
9:11 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. Police found several gates open at the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort. The key holder wasn’t aware they were open and said he would take care of the issue in the morning.

July 6
Balloon-tossing bust
12:40 p.m. — Longboat Pass Bridge. Boat. A man reported that a boater was throwing water balloons at other boats. A man aboard the boat said the balloons were being thrown from behind his boat but that it was all in fun. Police told him that the balloon launching must stop and that the person responsible should remove broken balloons from the water.
