July 9
Missing property
4:42 p.m. — 700 block of Hideaway Bay Drive
. Larceny. A maintenance worker reported a solar salt cell missing from a property of which he was taking care.

July 12
Get off my property
8:34 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Suspicious Vehicle. A drug-store employee reported a suspicious vehicle. Police found no violations but couldn’t locate the owner of the truck, which had construction equipment visible from the outside. Police told him about a property owner’s rights relating to having a vehicle removed.

Smear job campaign
12:52 p.m. — 2500 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A maintenance supervisor reported that an unknown person used the first-floor bathroom in a resort’s pool area and smeared feces on the walls. This has happened several times within the past few months, and the supervisor believes a homeless person may be responsible. He asked for extra police patrol in the area.

July 13
Unexpected turn
8:04 a.m. — 5700 block of GMD.
Traffic Accident. A man was trying to move to the center traffic lane to give room to cyclists when he became distracted and struck the vehicle in front of him that was turning into a condominium. No injuries were reported.

Skateboard snatch
8:36 a.m. — 700 block of Lands End Drive. Larceny. A man said that another male stole his skateboard while he was at the beach.

Troublesome trucker
9:51 a.m. — 700 block of St. Judes Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. A man reported that an unknown person in a small black truck dropped a kayak off in the neighboring carport. The same truck recently backed into a backflow-prevention device at the end of the street that a homeowner had to repair. The caller said that the driver is possibly an employee of a local restaurant.

Stolen from the sand
6 p.m. — 4700 block of GMD. Larceny. A woman reported two beach bags were taken while she and her family were swimming in the Gulf.

Brush up on those lyrics
4:58 p.m. — 3400 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. A man pulled his family’s car next to another vehicle to park at a beach access and saw a man inside brushing his teeth who then became verbally aggressive. The man who matched the description said he hadn’t spoken to anyone but possibly someone heard him singing a song and didn’t like the lyrics.

July 15
Chain reaction
1:06 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Traffic Accident. A woman said she was trying to park at Publix but her car accelerated when she hit the brakes, causing her to run over the curb. Her car then hit another vehicle, causing that vehicle to hit a third car. There were no injuries, but all three vehicles sustained damages, and the bushes will cost $1,500 to replace.

Enlightening encounter
9:44 p.m. — 4900 block of GMD. Animal. A security guard confronted an adult couple and children who were taking pictures of and using flashlights around a nesting sea turtle. Police told the family that using lights and flashes could cause the turtles to disorient.

July 16
No connection here
5:38 p.m. — 3500 block of GMD.
Suspicious Circumstance. A woman received a call from an unknown man who mistook her for a representative of a local newspaper. The man threatened and berated her because of damage paper carriers were doing to his and his neighbor’s property; he refused to believe she wasn’t affiliated with the newspaper. The caller’s number was blocked.
