I demand a refund
6:12 p.m. — 5300 block of GMD
Civil Disturbance: A retail business owner reported that a man came into her store with merchandise he was upset that his wife had purchased and wanted a refund. She informed him the store policy was to offer an exchange or store credit and that all sales are final. She said the man began arguing with her loudly and informed her he was reporting her to police and the Chamber of Commerce before storming out. Police offered to patrol her store over the next several days.
Pole-arizing incident
10:20 a.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road
Property Damage: A driver hit a pole with her front fender and the driver-side door of her rental car while backing out of a condominium parking space. She was advised to contact the rental agency.
Barker beware
9:57 p.m. — 700 block of Broadway
Disturbance: A restaurant manager told police that a man whom he has had problems with in the past tied his dog to a post near the door to the bar. The manager asked him to remove the dog because he was too close to patrons trying to enter the restaurant. After a brief discussion, the man left with his dog. The manager said due to problems in the past, he wanted the man trespassed from the property. Police said they would have to wait to trespass the man until he’s back on the property.
Driving while sleepy
1:36 a.m. — 2100 block of GMD
Traffic Violation: Police observed a car traveling south cross over onto the yellow line and into the grass median several times and pulled the car over. The man told police he had three beers earlier in the day. He passed a balance test and told police he was just tired. He agreed to have someone else come and pick up him and his car.
Crime scene cleanup
11:09 a.m. — 4300 block of GMD
Vehicle Larceny: A woman told police she was returning up north to Wisconsin and prepared by loading up half of her belongings into her SUV the day before. The next morning, she discovered her rear passenger door was partially open. Her glove box paperwork was thrown on the floor, and a suitcase was open. She told police nothing was missing from the suitcase. She’s not sure if she locked the vehicle the night before. She had cleaned up the car and repacked the suitcase, so police could not test the car for fingerprints.
Student Loan Scam
1:13 p.m. — 10 block of Winslow Place
Fraud: A woman told police she received an opportunity to consolidate her student loan debt and relayed her Social Security number and debit card information to a loan representative. The next day, she discovered it was a scam. Her bank issued her a new account number and told her to contact the credit card bureaus to report the scam. She made plans to call the Social Security office when it reopened on Monday.
Beach wakeup call
6:30 a.m. — 100 block of Broadway
Noise Disturbance: A man reported construction noise that violated the town’s noise ordinance. Police found a dump truck backing up and three other dump trucks parked at the Broadway beach access ready to deliver sand to the beach. The drivers received warnings for making noise prior to 7 a.m.
Test turnover
9:34 a.m. — 4300 block of GMD
Recovered Property: A condominium manager turned over a hand-held Breathalyzer testing device and a car key fob that a resident found in the parking lot.
Stolen trust
1:51 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD
Larceny: A Longboat Key postal worker reported his Kindle was stolen from the back room of the post office and he has no idea which co-worker stole it.

Harassing Phone Call: A man told police he got a call that contained “a lot of screaming and cussing” and hung up on the caller.
