NOV. 18

YOU'RE INSECURE

7:14 a.m. — 500 block of Harbor Cove Circle

Security Check: Police discovered two sliding glass doors on the pool deck of a home unsecured during patrols. Police left a message for the homeowner and locked the doors.

 

IDENTITY THEFT

10:17 a.m. — 5400 block of GMD

Fraud: A man told police his bank notified him that someone pretending to be him made a charge to his credit card and also had his date of birth, Social Security number and mother’s maiden name. The charge was voided, and he canceled his credit card.

 

SHOWING SNAFU

4:49 p.m. — 600 block of Emerald Harbor Drive

Alarm: A real estate agent accidentally entered the wrong alarm code and set oFf the house alarm before a showing.

 

NOV. 19

WAITING FOR THE BUS

3:57 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway

Welfare Check: A grocery store shopper called police because a man believed to be under the influence of alcohol was sitting on a bench in front of the store. He told police he was just tired and waiting for the trolley.

 

HEEL HEIST

8:52 p.m. — 2400 block of GMD

Burglary: A woman reported that someone stole two pairs of shoes valued at $2,200 and a black oval makeup bag containing various medications from her closet. She believes other items could be missing because her closet and kitchen were in disarray. The maintenance man and the leasing office have a key to her condo.

 

NOV. 20

WALK THE TALK

7:26 a.m. — 7100 block of Longboat Drive East

Disturbance:  A woman who called police the night before to break up a dispute called again in the morning to report her boyfriend was now filming her with his phone during another dispute. She told police the boyfriend also injured her and claimed she could barely walk on her right foot. Halfway through the interview with police, she started walking freely on the foot with no problems. Both parties agreed to stay away from one another until a friend arrived to pick up the woman.

 

STRIKING BACK

12 p.m. — 600 block of Tarawitt Drive

Disturbance: A homeowner complained that a contractor was using an empty lot across the street from him to repeatedly make U-turns with his trailer. The homeowner backed his car into the contractor’s truck to block him. There was no damage, and neither party wanted to make a report. It’s unknown who owns the vacant land, and police urged both parties to let it go.

 

NOTHING FISHY HERE

2:48 p.m. — Off the Key

Boat Violation: Bradenton Beach police officers advised Longboat police that marina employees were about to illegally dump items from a basin into the bay. The employees were dumping dead fish from a red tide outbreak that entered the basin back into the bay. There’s no state statute governing this act, and employees were told they could proceed with dumping the fish.

SIDEWAYS SAILING

3:32 p.m. — 700 bock of Tarawitt Drive

Boat: Police found a boat floating sideways in a canal that was blocking navigation. Police boarded the boat and secured it safely to the seawall. Police contacted the owner, who promised to take care of the boat.

 

MYSTERY SCRAPE

3:34 p.m. — 300 block of GMD

Property Damage: A woman discovered a scrape to the passenger side front fender of her car in a condo parking lot. No cars were parked next to her when police arrived.

 

NOV. 21

ART PATROL

3:27 a.m. — 200 block of GMD

Security Check: The front door to an art store was unlocked. Police promised extra patrol until daylight because they couldn’t lock the door.

 

NOV. 22

PARENT-FREE ZONE

1:55 a.m. — 7000 block of Longboat Drive East

Noise Disturbance: Police heard loud voices coming from a home. A man told police he was home with his friends while his parents were out of town. They promised to keep it down.

 

NOV. 23

COSTLY LUNCH

10:52 a.m. — 700 block of Broadway

Traffic Accident: A man attempting to park in a restaurant parking lot hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal and crashed into a wooden fence before hitting another vehicle and coming to a stop. The man was received a citation and caused $2,000 worth of damage to the other car, $300 in damages to his own car and $200 in damages to the wooden fence.

 

FRAUD REPORT

10:55 a.m. — 5400 block of GMD

Fraud: A woman received a collection bill for a $207.36 utility bill in Hazelwood, Mo. She’s never been to Missouri. Police made a report to open a fraud case.

 

CRASH PILEUP

6:12 p.m. — 3700 block of GMD

Traffic Accident: A man driving a gray Cadillac slammed into the back of a car that wasn’t moving on Gulf of Mexico Drive that caused a combined $25,500 in damage to three cars involved in the crash. He was issued a citation for causing the crash pileup.
