NOV. 11

CONSTRUCTION HOLIDAY

9:31 a.m. — 3300 block of GMD

Code Enforcement: Police told a contractor to stop work on a pool project because town code prohibits construction crews from working on town-designated holidays.

 

NOV. 12

BOAT VIOLATIONS

9:23 a.m. — Off the Key

Boat: Marine patrol issued warnings to owners of two moored vessels near the Linley Street boat ramp for having improper equipment. One boat had an improper fire extinguisher and a mast light that didn't work. The other boat had a valve in the incorrect position.

 

NOV. 13

STOP CALLING ME

11:16 a.m. — 5400 block of GMD

Harassment: A woman complained that a Key condominium owner keeps calling her to say she owes additional money for a rental stay, but the woman says she left according to the lease terms. Police told the condo owner it’s a civil matter and to stop harassing the woman with phone calls.

 

SCHOOLED ON SIGNS

2:38 p.m. — 3300 block of GMD

Code Enforcement: The town's code enforcement officer found a real estate sign without a valid temporary sign permit. The code officer told the owner of the house and the real estate agent about the sign code and temporary sign permitting process.

 

NOV. 14

BLAME IT ON THE WIND

2:58 a.m. — 6000 block of GMD

Suspicious Circumstance: Police believe heavy winds opened an exterior pool maintenance door and activated an alarm sensor.

 

FIT TO TRIM

8:50 a.m. — Intersection of GMD and Lyons Lane

Code Enforcement: Police received a report that a man was illegally cutting mangroves in front of a home. The homeowner produced a permit showing that the work was legal and being performed by a licensed contractor.

 

DELIVERY DAMAGE

9:40 a.m. — 4300 bock of Exeter Drive

Property Damage: A homeowners association president reported that a furniture delivery truck struck the corner of a rain gutter while following the driveway around a curve, causing minor damage. Both parties were given a business card and a case number.

 

DOGGONE RUDE

5:39 p.m. — 3400 block of GMD

Disturbance: A woman flagged down a police officer to report she saw a man walking a pit bull on the beach. The woman told police the man was rude to her when she informed him the town code doesn’t allow dogs on the beach. Police found the man, who agreed to remove the dog from the beach.

 

NOV. 16

PARTY’S OVER

3:30 p.m. — 5000 block of GMD

Code Enforcement: The code enforcement officer found balloons attached to a mailbox for a party for more than 72 hours, which is not allowed under the town code. The balloons were removed after the town attempted to contact the owner.

 

NOV. 17

TOO FAST FOR LONGBOAT

9:19 a.m. — 3400 block of GMD

Traffic Violation: Police observed a motorist passing vehicles on the left in a no passing zone while traveling 70 to 80 mph. He told police he passed them because they weren’t going the speed limit. Police issued him a ticket for driving recklessly over the speed limit.

 

CODE CRACKDOWN

11:03 a.m. — 600 block of Cedar Street

Code Enforcement: Police removed a construction sign from the right-of-way because it didn’t have a valid temporary sign permit displayed. The town’s code enforcement officer called in two other sign reports that morning for similar violations.

 

OPEN AND SHUT CASE

12:19 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway

Security Check: A man reported the wind was blowing two French doors to a restaurant open and shut. Police couldn’t secure the business and made plans to contact the owner.

 

NOV. 19

MIST-AKEN IDENTITY

8:34 a.m. — 1100 block of GMD

Fire: A condo visitor called police to report a possible fire. He mistakenly thought water mist from a pressure washer was smoke near the clubhouse.

 

PALLET PATROL

9:03 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway

Larceny: A drug store manager told police someone stole nine wooden pallets behind the drug store valued at $27. Police promised extra night patrol.

 

DAZED AND CONFUSED

8:49 p.m. — 3100 block of GMD

Welfare Check: Police found a man wearing nothing but his underwear bleeding from his head in a hotel stairwell. He was intoxicated and couldn’t provide police with his room number. No guests claimed him as a member of their party. He was transported to the hospital to sober up and receive treatment.

10:32 p.m. — 7100 block of GMD

Disturbance: A woman called police in hopes they could help broker peace after she and her boyfriend argued verbally after a night of drinking. Police observed no signs of injury. The couple agreed to sleep in different rooms for the night after police explained they are not couples counselors.
