Aug. 7
Branching out
12:51 a.m. — Gulf of Mexico Drive and Spinnaker Lane.
Highway Obstruction. Police removed the large pieces of a tree branch that fell into the roadway and left a message for Public Works, asking crew members to remove the remaining debris in the morning.

Aug. 9
Speed racer
6:07 p.m. — 900 block of Spanish Drive S. Boat.
A man told police that the operator of a boat slowed down briefly after the man yelled at him from his home for speeding. The man said that the boater then exited the basin and sped up. Police were unable to find the boat.

Aug. 10
Bow rider
1:36 p.m. — Off the Key/Bay.
Boat Violation. Police issued a citation to the operator of a large boat after seeing a male passenger bow riding on the vessel.

Mystery woman
3:34 p.m. — 1000 block of GMD. Welfare Check. Police were unable to find a woman who was reportedly entering traffic and appeared confused.

Aug. 11
Who’s on first
3:33 p.m. — 5200 block of GMD.
Disturbance/Conduct. A woman who appeared to be under the influence of drugs told police that her roommate began talking crazy and threatening to harm herself after she told her she wanted her to leave. The roommate told police that she was sleeping when the woman came into the home and began beating on her door and making threats. The roommate said that the woman owed her money, while the woman said that her roommate had hit her the day before, leaving her with a black eye. The roommate disagreed, saying that the woman’s black eye came from getting robbed the night before while trying to buy drugs. Police stood by while the roommate gathered her belongings and drove her to the police station so that she could make other arrangements.

Aug. 12
Pool party
12:11 a.m. — 3200 block of Bayou Road.
Disturbance/Noise. Police heard yelling and loud music and saw six vehicles parked in a driveway after they responded to a complaint about potentially unwelcome subjects in the swimming pool at the home. The woman who is renting the home was having a pool party but apologized and told her guests to go inside.

Testing the waters
12:02 p.m. — 6600 block of Gulfside Road. Dog on the Beach. Police told a man who is in town for the week that he is not allowed to have his dog on the beach.

Doggy don’t
3:07 p.m. — 5600 block of GMD. Dog on the Beach. A man told police that he was told he was allowed to bring his dog on the beach when he rented his condominium. The man agreed to leave after police explained the town’s ordinance.

Strong feelings
12:24 p.m. — 100 block of N. Shore Road. Beverage Violation. A man told police “Go ahead, write me a ticket” when police told him alcohol is not allowed on the beach. When police attempted to get his thumbprint and signature for the ticket he said, “(expletive) that and I ain’t signing it.” The man then walked away, so police explained his responsibility to appear in court with a member of the man’s family.

Damage control
3:02 p.m. — 3400 block of Bayou Sound. Fire. A man called 911 after the power wires running between his house and a neighbor’s home caught fire and began making loud popping noises. The fire was out by the time police arrived, and neither home was damaged. 

Family matters
7:52 p.m. — Off the Key/Bradenton Beach. Assist Other Agency. A man who appeared to be intoxicated argued with his adult son, who left the area on foot. The man’s son told police that he left the area before the argument escalated into something more and agreed to drive his father back to their home.

Aug. 13
Feeble Fence
10:18 a.m. — 800 block of Jungle Queen Way.
Vandalism. A woman said she saw a large, white truck loaded with bags of concrete drive down her street and noticed her fence had been damaged. Police couldn’t find the truck matching the woman’s description.

Bizarre Boat
1:32 p.m. — Off the Key. Found Property. Police found a boat adrift in a canal and towed it to the Longboat Arms boat ramp. The owner of the boat couldn’t be located and police impounded the boat.
