Sept. 8

ELLENTON
5500 block of Factory Shops Boulevard
Suspicious incidents: A mall guard called the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office because he found a suspicious briefcase lying next to a trash can near the entrance to the Outlet Mall. The Sheriff’s Office responded, taped off the area and cleared out the stores in proximity to the case. The bomb squad investigated, and decided it was only an abandoned briefcase, and not a bomb.

Sept. 11

MILL CREEK
13500 block of Fourth Plaza East
Information only: A couple living together both called the Sheriff’s Office because they were concerned for their safety. Both had been arguing and felt threatened by each other. The woman called in first and said her boyfriend had found out she was a dominatrix and was not “able to deal with it,” but would not stop contacting her. The man was upset because he believed his girlfriend was a prostitute. The man left Manatee County and went to Cape Coral because he was concerned for his safety, but demanded that a Manatee County deputy come to Cape Coral. He did not make a report with the Cape Coral Police Department.

Sept. 13

MILL CREEK
14500 block of 17th Avenue East
Information only: A deputy responded to a call about a loud party of teenagers happening in a home in the neighborhood. When the deputy arrived at the home, a teenage girl answered the door claiming to be the homeowner and giving a false name. However the girl eventually told the truth. The deputy decided not to make an arrest, and instead drove the girl home and told her mother about the party.

Sept. 14

RIVER SOUND
1400 block of Blue Horizon Circle
Suspicious incident: A woman called the Sheriff’s Office because her bedroom window’s screen had been removed overnight. She said she hadn’t seen anyone, but might have heard someone taking the screen off, but didn’t call the Sheriff’s Office right away. The deputy stated he found the screen on the ground and the window was not broken. He did not see any marks on the window that suggested someone attempting to pull off the screen or open the window, and there were no footprints around the window in the grass. The deputy recommended that the woman should call the Sheriff’s Office if it happened again.

Sept. 16

TROPICAL SHORE
1000 block of Tropical Drive
Burglary to an unoccupied dwelling: Someone went through the front door of the unlocked home. The person rifled through several closets but ultimately took only a small safe that had credit cards and a passport locked inside.
