The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

LAKEWOOD RANCH
Oct. 16
4:27 p.m. — 8201 Championship Court.
Battery. The victim alleged a civil issue turned into battery when he asked a golfer to pay for a broken tile. The victim stated he confronted a group of golfers when one of them accidentally broke one of his roof tiles with a golf ball. When he asked for payment, the suspect golfer allegedly pushed him to the ground. Affidavits were collected from all involved.

SARASOTA
Oct. 15
3:06 p.m. — 5205 University Parkway (Kohl’s). 
Retail theft. The suspect entered the store with another female. The two separated and went to different sections of the store. The suspect allegedly chose items, removed them from their hangers and concealed them in her purse. She reunited with the other female, and they both hit the point of sale, making minimal purchases. They failed to pay for the merchandise concealed in the suspect’s purse. They then passed all points of sale and exited the store. The complainant detained them until law enforcement could arrive. The suspect’s concealed items totaled $497.95. She was placed in custody and transported to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

SUMMERFIELD
Oct. 15
3 p.m. — 13800 block of Nighthawk Terrace.
Criminal mischief. The victim was sitting in his vehicle in front of a residence while his wife was shopping at a garage sale being held at the residence. An unknown person threw a smoke bomb firework from an unknown location, striking the roof of the victim’s vehicle. The firework left a burn mark on the vehicle’s roof. Law enforcement contacted the people living at the residence and the residence next door. The residents stated they didn’t see or know who threw the smoke bomb firework. Firework debris was collected and placed into evidence for processing. A search of the area for suspects was unsuccessful.

OTHER
Oct. 6
1:15 p.m. — 2911 53rd Ave.
E. Petit grand theft: shoplifting. The suspect walked into the store and entered the infant department. She selected an infant dress valued at $10.50. When she exited the store, she did stop at the register and paid for some of the items in her cart. The allegedly stolen dress was concealed in her purse. She walked past all points of sale without attempting to remove the clothing to render payment. The suspect was arrested for retail theft.

Reported Oct. 15
4:54 p.m. — 700 block of Tropical Drive. Criminal mischief ($1,000 or more). The complainant reported that when he went to sleep the night before, his vehicle was intact. When he went outside the morning of Oct. 15, his stepdaughter’s belongings were next to the vehicle, which had been keyed along the driver’s side, bumper and passenger side rear panel. He said he didn’t see or hear anybody outside the night before. The damage was estimated at $1,000.
