The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. 

July 31
NO PATIENCE
12:34 p.m. — 1100 block of Revell Road.
Child Abuse Without Great Harm. A man allegedly threw a remote control at his grandson because he didn’t bring him a beer fast enough.

Aug. 2
Sleepy slap
11:08 p.m. — 8200 block of 60th Street Circle E.
Battery. A woman woke up and began hitting her husband, who was sleeping next to her, but left their home before deputies arrived.

Aug. 3
Beer run
12:34 a.m. — 6200 block of River Club Blvd.
Information Only. Two males sitting on a playground sidewalk began to run when they saw a deputy approach. After deputies caught them, they explained that they had brought alcohol to the playground to drink. Deputies contacted their parents.

Extreme home makeover
8:56 a.m. — 2900 block of 127th Place E. Suspicious Incidents. An unknown person put a computer desk in the front yard of a home and threw paper towel rolls throughout the yard and in the bushes. The culprit also hung pairs of boxer shorts from lights in the garage.

Aug. 4
Vehicle break-in
12:50 p.m. — 5100 block of 241st St. E.
Burglary to Conveyance. A man left his truck in the woods at 1:30 a.m., while partying, so that he wouldn’t have to drive, and returned the next morning to find his back window shattered and his two amps, wallet and a .22 caliber long rifle missing.

Aug. 7
Baker Act
3:55 p.m. — 4300 block of S.R. 64 E.
Baker Act. A woman became erratic during a traffic stop and began walking around a parking lot, crying and talking to herself, asking, “What do I have to live for?” She was transported to a local hospital after she indicated to deputies that she wanted to kill herself.

Aug. 8
Distracted shopper
6:35 p.m. — 6200 block of S.R. 64 E.
Lost Property. A woman was distracted as she loaded groceries into her car while talking to her sister and accidentally drove off without taking her purse out of the shopping cart. The purse was no longer in the cart she had used when she returned 25 minutes later.

Something’s missing
3:18 p.m. — 3300 block of 53rd Ave. E. Baker Act. A man was attempting to pump gas, but had no car. The man told deputies that he didn’t know where he was and said that he had been drinking alcohol but didn’t know how long ago. Deputies transported the man to a hospital for further evaluation.

Aug. 9
Porta Potty prank
11:26 a.m. — 400 block of 147th Court N.E. 
Information Only. Deputies found an object that looked like a homemade explosive device inside a construction site Porta Potty. A woman approached deputies while the bomb squad destroyed the object and said her 13-year-old son is very creative and likes to play with air soft guns and put things together, but didn’t think he would build a fake bomb. The woman called her son, who said that he gave a Hershey can with a phone attached to some friends yesterday to use as a movie prop, which matched the description of the fake bomb.

Discount store dialer
1:12 p.m. — 4400 block of 67th Ave. Circle E. Information Only. A former employee of a discount store found a customer’s phone number and address from the top of the water bottles she refills, and the customer said she now repeatedly calls her at all hours. The employee was fired after the woman notified the storeowner, and now the woman feels her life is in danger.
