The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. 

Aug. 21
Undercover operation
 9:23 p.m. — 3100 block of University Parkway. 
Trespass Warning. A drug store manager asked that a man be trespassed after he went to sleep on the sidewalk to get cover from the rain.

Aug. 23
Inflamed temper
 9 a.m. — 700 block of 60th St. Court E.
Battery. A man and woman who used to be a couple and are still business partners got into an argument that turned physical when the man grabbed a lit candle and threw hot wax onto the woman, striking her in the left arm, then began breaking items in the office and smashing pictures on the walls to the ground. The man also punched the woman twice after she tried to take his keys. Deputies arrested the man.

Aug. 24
Gearing up for divorce court
 6:10 p.m. — 5100 block of 73rd St. E
. Information Only. A man who is going through a heated divorce said that his soon-to-be-ex wife told him while he was standing next to the rear passenger door of her car that she would run him over if he talked to her again. The soon-to-be-ex husband wanted the incident documented.

Aug. 25
What fight?
 1:05 a.m. — 8200 block of Natures Way
. Information Only. Two dementia patients got into a physical fight at a nursing home, but neither man could remember what happened. A nurse suspected that the fight occurred after one man went into the other patient’s room. Deputies advised the nurse to speak to the men’s physicians about the incident.

Such a gentleman
 10:13 p.m. — 200 block of Dahlia Cour
t. Battery. Deputies received a 911 call from a home in which a man lives with his girlfriend. They heard the woman say, “Get off me,” when they arrived. Deputies couldn’t determine who was the aggressor because the woman had minor injuries but wouldn’t explain how she sustained them, and the man said that the woman bit him. After deputies told the couple that one or both of them would be arrested, the man agreed to be taken into custody and asked that the woman remain at home.

Aug. 26
Baby mama drama
 5:52 p.m. — 7300 block of 53rd Avenue E. and 73rd Lane E.
Information Only. A woman said that her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend, with whom he is expecting a child, showed up at his house and began yelling at the current girlfriend. The ex followed the woman and yelled obscenities after she got in her car and left. Police told the woman that her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend’s actions weren’t criminal.

Aug. 27
 Favorite child?

 7:22 p.m. — 6600 block of First Ave. E.
Civil Dispute. A woman called the sheriff’s office to document a child-custody dispute and told deputies that she and her ex-husband are supposed to alternate custody on weekends. After deputies told her that court papers were too vague to enforce the transfer of the children, the woman came to the sheriff’s office to fill out an affidavit stating that her ex-husband refused to give her one of their children. The report did not indicate why the ex-husband was apparently willing to give back the other children.
