Dec. 22
Kayak sighting
11:43 a.m. — 100 block of Sands Point Road.
Found Property. A Sands Point resident discovered a kayak floating by the dock of the Sands Point Marina.


Minor incident

2:01 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway
. Traffic Accident. Police responded to a traffic accident, and both drivers told police they did not wish to file a crash report.

Dec. 23
Persistence of memory
10:48 a.m. — 5700 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD)
. Lost Property. A woman reported she lost her purse the day before in Bradenton or Holmes Beach. A neighbor reported the woman had a memory-loss problem, and the purse was found the following day.

Dec. 25
Pass the test
12:36 a.m. — 3700 block of GMD
. Alarm. A man called and requested a carbon monoxide level be checked in a mobile home due to past issues with the heater. The Longboat Key Fire Rescue Department reported no traces of carbon monoxide in the home.

Drunk driver arrested
1:44 a.m. — 1400 block of GMD
. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a man who was swerving on Gulf of Mexico Drive. An odor of alcohol emanated from the car, and the driver was arrested after failing all aspects of a roadside sobriety test. A case of beer was submitted into evidence, and the car also contained two half-full cans of beer in the passenger seat.

Passport problem
8:52 p.m. — 400 block of L’Ambiance
. Lost Property. A woman told police she lost her passport some time after presenting it in a Toronto airport.

Dec. 27
Free ride
1:40 a.m. — Intersection of GMD and Tarawitt Drive
. Public Service. A drunken man was observed walking in the Gulf of Mexico Drive bicycle lane; he was trying to remember his address. Police located his parents’ condominium and dropped him off.

Median move
7:48 p.m. — 1000 block of GMD
. Abandoned Vehicle. A driver left a note on his car’s windshield that explained he left his broken-down car in the Gulf of Mexico Drive median. One of car owner’s family members was located to remove the vehicle, because the owner didn’t possess a valid driver’s license.

 

Dec. 28
Slick situation
12:55 p.m. — 600 block of Birdie Lane.
Dumping. A man reported that several dumped oil into a hole on a vacant lot. Police attempted to explain the issue, but none of the workers spoke English. The translation was eventually understood, and the oil was removed.

Business doors secured
11:09 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway
Security Check. Police secured the east side doors of two Avenue of the Flowers businesses.

Dec. 29
Smelly situation
12:10 a.m. — 500 block of Sanctuary Drive
. Fire. Police and Fire Rescue responded to an odor complaint inside a home and determined the heating unit was causing the odor.

Father doesn’t know best
1:44 a.m. — 4400 block of GMD
. Beverage Violation. A man was arrested after allegedly hitting his son during a party. All of the people involved in the incident had been drinking, and the man was arrested for battery and allowing underage drinking to occur.

Dec. 30
Ride home
1:31 a.m. — 6900 block of GMD
. Public Service. Police noticed a man sleeping in his Jeep, which was parked in a closed gas station parking lot. The man told police he pulled over because he wasn’t feeling well, and he accepted a ride home.
