Feb. 10
Drive to succeed
6:22 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway
. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman reported seeing a suspicious man wearing dark clothing in the Avenue of the Flowers parking lot. He was asking women if he could drive their cars up to the store’s door so they wouldn’t get wet in the rain. The man was gone upon arrival.

Easy access
7:31 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Disturbance. A man in a wheelchair reported that earlier in the day, a man was parked in the fire lane at Avenue of the Flowers, which restricted his access to the crosswalk leading to the parking lot. The driver of the car and his wife told police the man was being irrational and banged on the side of their sport utility vehicle, even though they weren’t blocking access to the crosswalk. The driver was told not to park in the fire lane in the future.


Feb. 11

Move it or lose it
8:28 a.m. — 4700 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD)
. Public Service. A man called to report a vehicle and trailer were parked on private property. A message requesting their removal was left for the owner.

No soliciting allowed
12 p.m. — 500 block of Schooner Lane
. Soliciting. Two men were issued written warnings for soliciting in Country Club Shores.

Wallet swiped
2:03 p.m. — 3700 block of GMD
. Lost Property. A man told police he believes someone stole his wallet while he was riding the bus.


Feb. 13
Secure seat
9:01 a.m. — 700 block of Broadway
. Public Service. A man called police to question whether a donated park bench was still sitting near the Linley Street boat dock. Police located the bench and made sure the Public Works Department secured it firmly to its concrete pad.

No noise on Sundays
9:10 a.m. — Intersection of GMD and De Narvaez Drive. Code Enforcement. A man was told he couldn’t perform yard work with gasoline-powered equipment on Sundays.

Take the trolley
7:50 p.m. — 6600 block of GMD
. Traffic Violation. Police pulled a man over for driving a car with no passenger side headlight. He was issued a warning for the headlight and a criminal citation for driving with an expired driver’s license. The man took the trolley home.


Feb. 14
Shopping steal
8:26 a.m. — 2600 block of GMD
. Lost Property. A woman reported that she believes she lost her pocketbook in a St. Armands Circle store. She also believes it could have been stolen while she was shopping.

Boat repossessed
3:18 p.m. — 2600 block of Harbourside Drive
. Vehicle Repossession. A man called police to report he was repossessing a 40-foot boat from the Longboat Key Club Moorings Marina.

Homeward bound
6:10 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway
. Suspicious Person. It was reported that a woman was hanging outside the liquor store in Avenue of the Flowers and asking people for a place to stay. She was located and told police she would sleep on the beach if no one invited her home for the evening. Police told her that wasn’t going to happen and watched her take a bus back to the mainland.

Office locked and secured
11:53 p.m. — 3100 block of GMD
. Security Check. Police secured the door of an unlocked real-estate office along Gulf of Mexico Drive.

Feb. 15

Tire-d of car issues
1:44 a.m. — 3200 block of GMD.
Traffic Violation. A man was stopped for swerving along Gulf of Mexico Drive. He passed a sobriety test and explained he had a problem with his right front tire that would be repaired later in the day.

Multiple tickets issued
10:22 p.m. — 1100 block of GMD
. Narcotics Violation. Police pulled over a white Jeep for multiple violations, including a missing headlight and swerving. The odor of freshly burnt marijuana was observed, and the driver was issued multiple citations that included possession of marijuana.

Feb. 10, 1984
5:29 p.m. — 2200 block GMD
. Woman reports snake on couch. Snake found to be rubber imitation.

Feb. 12, 1984
12:13 p.m. — Chatham Drive. Woman reports raccoon in tree. Police advised her this was not unusual.

Feb. 15, 1999
12:04 a.m. — GMD and Cedar Street.
Suspicious Circumstance. Two arrested. Might have been trying to break into newspaper stand.
