Well done
7:19 p.m. — 1100 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Fire. Smoke from a burned dinner set off a fire alarm.

Where there’s smoke ...
7:28 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Fire Alarm. Police responded to a fire alarm and found the unit owner trying to get rid of the smoke in the kitchen. The smoke was under control.

March 3
Open-door policy
7:54 p.m. — 3200 block of Bayou Road. Suspicious Circumstance. A couple told police that upon returning to their home, they found a door open that led from the pool area into the home. Although the couple was sure someone must have entered the home, police found no signs of entry.

March 4
Just visiting
8:38 a.m. — 700 block of Russell Street. Suspicious Vehicle. Police located the owner of a van that was reported as “suspicious looking.” The van driver was staying with a neighbor, and the matter was labeled a misunderstanding.

Phone pickup
11:41 a.m. — 5400 block of GMD
. Found Property. A man picked up his cell phone at the police station. Someone found the phone while walking in Joan M. Durante Park.

Lightening their load
7:32 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road
. Trespassing. A group told police they were only reloading kayaks onto their vehicle at the closed North Shore Road beach access because the water had gotten rough and they had to disembark there. They were advised of parking and trespassing restrictions.

March 5
Under observation
10:36 p.m. — Off the Key.
Traffic Violation. Police watched a driver run a stop sign at Broadway and drive 60 miles per hour on Gulf of Mexico Drive. The driver also had an open container of beer in the vehicle. He was issued multiple tickets.

March 6
Drunk driver arrested
1:37 a.m. — 3200 block of GMD
. Driving Under the Influence. A man was arrested and taken to Sarasota County Jail for driving under the influence.

Temporary solution
10:55 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway
. Suspicious Circumstance. Police confronted a woman about driving with a temporary tag on the back of her car. The woman ripped off the expired tag to reveal a proper metal tag. The paper tag was confiscated by police and destroyed.

Every dog has its day
2:33 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road
. Code Enforcement. A man who is a frequent offender of allowing his dog on Beer Can Island was issued a notice to appear in court.

Taking count
6:44 p.m. — 500 block of Ranger Lane
. Suspicious Person. A woman told police that a disheveled, suspicious person was roaming the streets soliciting. She later told police the man claimed to work with the U.S. Census Bureau.

Need some ‘me’ time
8:31 p.m. — 500 block of Gunwale Lane.
Animal Found. Police reunited a Siberian husky with its owner in Country Club Shores. The husky had made its way to the Longboat Key Club and Resort.

March 7
Car shopping
10:07 a.m. — 6900 block of GMD
. Public Service. A woman told police her purse was missing from her vehicle, but she later realized she left it in another vehicle.

Quick return
12:41 p.m. — 3800 block of GMD
. Lost Property. A woman who rode her bike from her home to the Post Office and back told police she lost her wallet during the trip. A man soon called police to report he found the wallet near the sidewalk.

March 8
Signed, sealed and delivered?
9:51 a.m. — 500 block of Schooner Lane
. Lost Property. A man told police that a delivery service claims they delivered a package that he could not locate.

Off the beaten path
2:46 p.m. — 6600 block of Bayou Hammock Road
. Trespassing. It was reported that bicyclists were trespassing in an area where signs were posted about no trespassing.

March 9
Hot potato
6:36 p.m. — 2400 block of GM
D. Fire Alarm. It was determined a smoking, burned potato in a microwave set off a condominium fire alarm.
