April 7
Can it
10:41 p.m. — 100 block of Broadway.
Code Enforcement. Police found a car containing empty beer cans that was parked in a beach access after hours. Police informed the owner of the car he couldn’t allow his companion, who has a learner’s permit, to drive the car.

April 8
Out with a bang
1:01 a.m. — 2800 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD).
Driving Under the Influence. Police heard a loud bang and found a car in a ditch on Gulf of Mexico Drive. Police found a woman in the car, who had the smell of alcohol on her breath. She was mumbling that she wanted to go back to her boyfriend’s house. The woman was arrested for driving under the influence, careless driving and property damage.

Neighborhood watch
4:04 p.m. — 700 block of Tarawitt Drive
. Suspicious Circumstance. A man reported that his neighbor informed him that someone tried to get into his home while he was gone. The neighbor didn’t call police at the time because she wasn’t sure what the man was doing.

Not-so-happy hour
5:37 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road.
Trespassing. A woman reported that someone was drinking a beer outside of a drug store. The man, who was waiting for a bus, was issued a trespass warning.

April 9
Beach fire extinguished
6:43 p.m. — 3400 block of GMD.
Fire. Longboat Key Fire Rescue extinguished a fire in a wooded area of a beach access. The fire started when someone threw hot coals near the trunk of a pine tree.

April 12
Bicyclist injured
10:44 a.m. — Intersection of GMD and Longboat Club Road.
Accident. A bicyclist told police that he had to slam on his brakes to avoid an approaching car, and he flipped over the handlebars and onto the pavement. Witnesses stated that two large Verizon trucks could have impaired the driver’s vision of the bicyclist. Tickets were not issued, because no collision occurred. The bicyclist was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

April 7
Move your boat
6:21 p.m. — 700 block of Marbury Lane.
Boat. A woman complained that her neighbor used her dock to park a boat the neighbor rented from Cannons Marina.

April 9
Dog run
1:01 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road
. Code Enforcement. Police saw several dogs running loose on Beer Can Island and informed the boat owners to get them off the beach.

April 10
The party’s over
12:20 a.m. — 3800 block of GMD
. Noise Disturbance. Police received a noise complaint and told six people to move their party inside and to remove the beer from the beach.

Expiration date
9:09 a.m. — 3500 block of GMD.
Traffic Violation. A man was issued a notice to appear in court for driving with an expired driver’s license. His sister came to pick up him and the car.

No beer allowed
3:37 p.m. — Beer Can Island.
Code Enforcement. Several people were told they couldn’t drink beer on Beer Can Island.

Dog docked
4:17 p.m. — Beer Can Island.
Code Enforcement. A man was told his doberman was not allowed on Beer Can Island. The dog was put back on the boat.

April 11
Suspension rate
9:40 a.m. — 5200 block of GMD.
Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a driver for an expired tag. He was issued a ticket for driving with a suspended driver’s license and an expired tag.

No driver’s license
10:04 a.m. — 400 block of Firehouse Court.
Traffic Violation. A man was issued a ticket for driving without a valid driver’s license.

Derelict sailboat
10:25 a.m. — 4700 block of GMD.
Boat. A man was told he had one week to remove a derelict sailboat from the beach.

Trailer complaints pile up
1:02 p.m. — 700 block of Tarawitt Drive.
Suspicious Vehicle. Neighbors complained that a trailer sitting in someone’s driveway was an eyesore.

Noisy construction crew
6:37 p.m. — 700 block of Dream Island Road
. Code Enforcement. A construction crew was informed of the town’s noise ordinance, which prevents them from working into the evening.

Marijuana found in minivan
9:39 p.m. — 6000 block of GMD
. Narcotics Violation. Marijuana was found in a man’s minivan after police located the man in a marina after hours and he was issued a notice to appear in court.

April 12
Fire alarm malfunctions
8:59 a.m. — 400 block of North Shore Road
. Alarm. Police and Fire Rescue discovered that a fire alarm was malfunctioning in a condominium unit.

Bicyclist injured
10:44 a.m. — Intersection of GMD and Longboat Club Road.
Accident. A bicyclist told police that he had to slam on his brakes to avoid an approaching car, and he flipped over the handlebars and onto the pavement. Code Enforcement. Police found a man sitting in his car in Overlook Park after hours. The man told police he was pondering a recent relationship. He promised to go ponder somewhere else.
