June 1
Tied down
2:25 p.m. — 600 block of Birdie Lane. Unsecured Boat. Public Works Department employees secured a drifting boat to a dock in Country Club Shores. The owner of the boat promised to retrieve it the following day.

June 2
Payment due
12:08 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a man for pulling a trailer that didn’t have working brake lights or a valid tag. The driver was issued citations and was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license, because he had not made child-support payments.

June 3
Noise control
7:51 a.m. — 6900 block of Poinsetta Avenue.
Animal Nuisance. A woman complained that a neighbor’s dogs were left outside in the yard all day and barked continuously. Other neighbors also made complaints and planned to provide police with a neighborhood petition to request the barking cease. The owner of the dogs promised to get the situation under control.

Security breach
8:40 a.m. — 3000 block of Harbourside Drive. Reckless Driving. A security officer told police that a driver kept driving through the gates without stopping to verify his destination. It was learned there was confusion about new security procedures that were recently implemented, and all parties agreed to resolve the issue with residents in the future.

June 5
Man of few words
10:21 a.m. — 400 block of L’Ambiance Drive.
Phone Call. A woman told police that a man kept calling her and saying, “Yo!” before hanging up. Police left a message for the prankster and urged him to stop calling the woman.

It’s all in the delivery
5:12 p.m. — 5700 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD).
Traffic Violation. A man who is registered as a sexual offender was warned about reckless driving while he was delivering magazines on the Key. Police called the man’s probation officer to advise him of the situation.

Access denied
8:08 p.m. — 200 block of North Shore Road.
Trespassing. A couple told police that people keep walking through their condominium property to the beach. They are concerned about the security of their property, and police promised to increase patrols in the area.

June 6
Ticket taker
7:34 a.m. — 6000 block of GMD.
Traffic Violation. A man was issued a ticket for driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Hindsight is 20/20
4:20 p.m. — Intersection of GMD and Broadway.
Reckless Driving. A man told police that someone driving a large truck passed him illegally in the center of Longboat Pass Bridge and hit the driver’s side mirror on his van. The man pulled over at Broadway and called police to report the incident, which began when the truck began tailgating him in Bradenton Beach. The situation had escalated when the driver of the van hit his brakes to try and force the truck to stop following him so closely, and the van driver threw a glass of water over the roof of his van and back at the truck. Both drivers admitted their actions were wrong, and no tickets were issued, because there was no damage to either vehicle. The mirror was adjusted back into place.

No passing
5:19 p.m. — 3200 block of GMD.
Traffic Violation. Police observed a motorcycle passing a car in a no-passing zone and pulled him over. The man was arrested for driving without a valid driver’s license and had multiple violations in the past for the same offense.

Pocket change stolen
5:52 p.m. — 4700 block of GMD.
Vehicle Larceny. A woman told police that someone entered her unlocked car and stole about $4 worth of change from the center console.

Property search
11:45 p.m. — Intersection of GMD and Tarawitt Drive. Suspicious Vehicle. A woman told police a car was driving slowly up and down her street. Police ran the tag of the car and discovered it belonged to a real-estate agent. No further action was taken.

June 7
Switching it up
8:31 a.m. — 1100 block of GMD.
Traffic Violation. A man admitted to putting the tag from his van onto his unregistered truck, which was also not insured. He was issued a ticket for putting the improper tag on an unregistered vehicle.

June 8
Open door policy
3:36 a.m. — Off the Key.
Assist Other Agency. Police responded to the Bradenton Beach City Pier to help with a report of a pried open kitchen door. No one was located inside, and police waited until the restaurant owner responded.

False alarm
6:40 p.m. — 800 block of Longboat Club Road.
Burglar Alarm. Police responded to a security alarm but found the home secure.

June 8, 2006

The six cents
12:38 p.m. — Longboat Key Police Department.
A woman told police that the clerk at a corner market charged her $1.05 for a $0.99 bag of popcorn. She told the clerk that there is no tax on food after handing him a dollar but he demanded an additional nickel before grabbing the bag. When the customer asked for her dollar back, he threw it across the counter.
