Memory matters
2:20 a.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road. Missing Person. A woman told police that her boyfriend had gone for a late-night walk and must have gotten lost. Police searched the beach, only to discover that the intoxicated man had indeed gotten lost — in the condominium parking lot. The man could not remember in which building he was staying. Police pointed him in the right direction.

Sign thief close to home
3:52 p.m. — 5400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Missing Property. A man told police that someone stole the open-house signs he had placed near the intersection of Broadway and Gulf of Mexico Drive. Police believe that the town’s code-enforcement officer may have swiped the signs, because they were placed illegally. The man then realized the town takes its sign code pretty seriously.

While the cat’s away …
3:52 p.m. — 7000 block of Longboat Drive East. Animal Nuisance. A woman called to complain that her neighbor would soon be leaving for the summer. The complaint centered on the fact that the neighbor leaves her cats behind, and the bowls of food that are left out attract raccoons.
Police contacted the neighbor, who explained that she would be taking her cats with her this year. Although the complainant will be pleased, the local wildlife population will have to find food elsewhere.
