May 25
Move it or lose it
2:47 p.m. — 700 block of Marbury Lane. Trespassing. A woman called to report two cars parked in her driveway, which she said happens on a regular basis. The owners of the vehicles were told the woman’s driveway was not a parking lot and were issued trespass warnings.

May 29
No free rides to Longboat Key
1:04 p.m. — 6400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Suspicious Circumstance. A cab driver called to report she was having trouble collecting her cab fare. The cabbie explained a woman had attempted to pay her fare from Sarasota with a credit card, but the card was declined. After much discussion between the two parties, the tab was paid in cash.

Should have just stayed home
12:50 a.m. — 3800 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. A man made a bad decision by attempting to park at a closed beach access around midnight and received a ticket for driving with a suspended driver’s license and for not paying past traffic citations.

Smells like teen spirit
6:53 p.m. — 100 block of GMD. Juvenile Acts. Police broke up a party of underage drinkers who were drinking a case of beer at Overlook Park after hours. The two drunkest teenagers, however, decided to be uncooperative and got to sleep it off at the Sarasota County Jail.

May 31
Explosive personalities
12:02 a.m. — 600 block of Bayview Drive. Noise Disturbance. Police responded to a report of fireworks being set off at a house party. Police didn’t see any fireworks, but they asked the partygoers to settle down.

Party animals
3:25 a.m. — 700 block of Norton Street. Noise Disturbance. Guests at a late-night party were asked to settle down.

Special delivery
4:11 p.m. — 500 block of Broadway. Suspicious Person. A woman flagged down a police officer on patrol and said she had just seen a man sifting through her mailbox. Police found the man, who explained that he was collecting mail from a friend who used to live there. Police verified his story but told him that future mail forwarding had to be done by the U.S. Postal Service.

Too hot to handle
6:50 p.m. — 2600 block of Harbourside Drive. Brush Fire. The Longboat Key Fire Rescue Department extinguished a small brush fire in the grass outside of a restaurant.

Long-distance relationship
7:41 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Disturbance. A woman called the Longboat Key police department from Chicago to report that her estranged husband kept calling her from their Longboat Key home and threatening her at work. Police advised her to fill out a report when she returned to the Key.

June 1
Sales pitch coming up short
12:59 p.m. — 3500 block of Fair Oaks Lane. Harassing Phone Calls. A man told police that he kept getting calls from two telemarketers asking to speak with his son. Because the calls kept coming despite a request for them to stop, police asked the man to call them if the calls continue.

June 2
It’s a numbers game
8:51 a.m. — 5300 block of GMD. Burglar Alarm. Police responded to a burglary alarm at a doctor’s office that is closed for the summer. They found a construction crew who had permission to perform renovation work. The crew had the right keys but the wrong alarm code.

Those burglars look familiar
12:14 p.m. — 700 block of St. Judes Drive South. Suspicious Circumstance. A man called police to report a burglary in progress at a neighbor’s house. Police discovered, however, that two men had the permission of their mother to pick up items at the house before the home falls into foreclosure.
