June 25
Pack it up
5:18 p.m. — 1100 block of Bogey Lane. Public Service. A man reported that a lawn crew was making too much noise and violating the town’s noise ordinance. Upon arrival, the crew was packing up after laying down sod. No action was taken.

June 26
To his credit
8:05 p.m. — 4000 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Found Property. A good Samaritan discovered a credit card in an ATM machine while attempting to access the machine. He turned the card over to the authorities.

June 28
Taking flight
12:24 p.m. — 3700 block of GMD. Animal Found. A man called police to report a pelican had been hanging out in the carport of a home across the street for more than three hours. Upon closer inspection, police discovered that a fishhook was caught in the bird’s right wing and that the attached fishing line was caught on some nearby rocks. With the assistance of some nearby residents, police got the hook out of the bird’s wing, and the bird flew into Sarasota Bay on its own accord.

The lone traveler
10:31 p.m. — Intersection of GMD and Bay Isles Parkway. Suspicious Person. Police stopped a man walking on the paved portion of Gulf of Mexico Drive and discovered he was planning on walking to St. Petersburg to visit some friends. After learning he was planning on sleeping on Longboat’s beach, he was offered a ride to the Days Inn, in Bradenton, which he happily accepted.

The invisible man
11:58 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a Sarasota man for having an unreadable tag and a broken taillight. The man told police he has never had a license or any form of identification. The private person was issued several citations and taken to jail.

June 29
Back to the future
11:42 p.m. — 700 block of Dream Island Road. Vehicle Larceny. A woman reported that someone stole her purse, which contained $40 in cash, and some credit cards from her car. She advised that the only suspicious activity she saw recently was a “1950s gold-colored Buick or Pontiac” she saw earlier in the day.

July 2
Delivering the news
3:39 a.m. — 2900 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. A man reported a suspicious vehicle with three occupants in his driveway. Police verified that the driver was a newspaper carrier and helped him locate the address for which he was looking.

July 4
All fired up
9:31 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Fire. Police were called to a resort regarding a bonfire on the beach. The fire was put out before police arrived.

Set off sparks somewhere else
9:45 p.m. — 6600 block of GMD. Illegal Activity. Police told several people that they couldn’t set off fireworks on the beach. They complied and left the area.

Right-side up
2:20 p.m. — Off the Key. Assist Other Agency. Longboat Key police officers helped the Sarasota Police Department right a capsized speedboat that had flipped during the Offshore Grand Prix boat race.
