March 3
Fraudulent phone call
11:14 a.m. – 2000 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD).
Fraud. A man told police that he wired $2,600 to someone whom he thought was his grandson because he called and said he needed the money to get out of jail in Canada. But it turns out it was a scam. The man was provided with a fraud pamphlet.

March 5
Toll trouble
8:27 a.m. — 3800 block of GMD.
Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a man for driving with an expired tag and discovered he had eight current license suspensions. The driver blamed the suspensions on issues he was having with a toll road and his electronic Sun Pass. He was issued a citation, and a family member came to drive the car home.

March 6
Midnight snack?
12:47 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Security Check. Police discovered two doors to an Italian restaurant were unlocked.

Late for a very important date
9:18 a.m. — 5400 block of GMD.
Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a woman for passing two cars in a right-turn-only lane. Another driver stopped and told police that he was glad she got caught, because she tailgated him and forced him into the emergency lane when she attempted to pass him on the right and come back onto the road. The driver, who received a ticket for reckless driving, told police she was late for an art show at Coquina Beach.

Game play
8:52 a.m. — 600 block of Bay Isles Parkway.
Traffic Violation. Police pulled over drivers of a green Jaguar and black Nissan for unsafely speeding and cutting in front of each other in the middle of traffic. It was determined the drivers were a tennis coach and the mother of a son who takes lessons from the coach. Police discovered the two drivers were driving recklessly for amusement and gave the woman a ticket for passing in a no-passing zone.

March 7
Snapped up
12:53 p.m. — 600 block of Longboat Club Road.
Lost Property. A Canadian man reported that he lost his Canon camera and black camera case somewhere between St. Armands Circle and his Longboat Key Towers condominium.

Keys found
5:56 p.m. – 6500 block of GMD.
Found Property. Someone turned in a set of keys that he found next to the sidewalk near Gulf of Mexico Drive. The keys are at the police station waiting to be claimed.

March 8
Speedy service
8:28 a.m. — 600 block of Buttonwood Drive.
Public Service. A man complained of a speeding lawn-service truck barreling down Buttonwood Drive. Police contacted the owner of the lawn service and advised her to warn her drivers to slow down.

Beach patrol
9:18 a.m. — 200 block of North Shore Road.
Trespassing. A man called police to report that beachgoers continue to use a condominium’s private beach access because the town closed its nearby public beach access last year. Police suggested the condominium association place more no-trespassing signs with a rope line if it meets code-enforcement fence requirements for the area.
