March 5
Family jewels
6:12 p.m. — 900 block of Boulevard of the Arts.
Theft. An elderly condo owner told police someone had stolen at least $185,000 worth of her jewelry. The woman had taken some of her jewels out of her vault, placed them in a leather bag and taken them home. She planned on having them photographed before she put them up for auction. At one point, she thought she may have accidentally thrown the leather bag out with her kitty litter, but now she believes it was stolen. She said three people knew the jewelry was in her condo: her boyfriend, another male friend and her cleaning woman.

Clean freak strikes again
7:30 p.m. — 1700 block of Pelican Cove Road.
Car Burglary. The complainant reported someone broke into her car, which was unlocked in her driveway. When asked what had been stolen, she told deputies that nothing was taken. The person who got into her car apparently just rearranged some things, but didn’t steal anything.

March 8
Biker bar
9 p.m. — 6500 block of Midnight Pass Road.
Grand Theft. A woman who rode her bike to a Siesta Key bar and left her purse in the bike’s basket while she went inside was shocked when she left the bar and discovered both the bike and purse were gone. A deputy said the woman was drunk and couldn’t remember what was in the purse. But she kept saying her “whole life was in it.” She told the deputy that while she was in the bar a man started talking to her and that he seemed suspicious. She could not elaborate on why she thought he was
suspicious.

Money matters
10:15 p.m. — 6400 block of South Tamiami Trail.
Suspicious Incident. A drug-store employee said a man, who appeared to be homeless, walked into the store and asked for some money and a cigarette. The employee told the man she didn’t have either, and he left. About 45 minutes later, the same man returned to the store, but this time he had a wad of cash with him. The employee said it appeared to be about $200 or $300. He gave some money to the employee, because she told him earlier she didn’t have any. Robin Hood strikes again.

March 9
Numbers game
10:55 a.m. — 2700 block of Valencia Drive.
Criminal Mischief. The complainant told deputies that someone had spray painted the numbers “13” and “570” with three lines underneath them on the telephone-transfer box in front of his house. Looks like we’ve got our lottery numbers for this week.

In shock
6:36 p.m. — 2900 block of Clark Road.
Civil Disturbance. A woman called deputies because she was upset at how messy her tenant’s room is and complained that her electric bill has skyrocketed since the tenant arrived. A deputy gave her information on how she can evict her tenant.

They sure know how to party
11:43 p.m. — 4600 block of Garcia Avenue.
Disturbance. A deputy responded to a report of a loud argument between two men. When he arrived, he saw two men and two women. All four denied an argument had taken place and said they were just having fun on their patio. One of the men said his neighbors hate him and that’s probably why they called to report him.
