Time is of the essence
5:33 p.m.
— 700 block of Old Compass Road. Code Enforcement. Someone reported construction noise after 5 p.m. Police found a man operating a cement pump truck in Emerald Harbor. He was issued a warning for working past 5 p.m.

Aug. 3
Stolen shutters
9:23 a.m.
— 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Larceny. A drug-store manager reported that someone stole three steel storm shutters valued at $300 each from behind his store.

Upset onlooker
9:40 a.m.
— 2300 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Fishing. A woman told police she was distraught about a man using a spear gun to catch fish on one of the groins behind The Islander Club. Police explained to the woman that his actions were not illegal and told her to stop verbally badgering the young man.

Hard sell
10:44 a.m.
— 600 block of Buttonwood Drive. Suspicious Vehicle. A neighbor called to report strange people exiting a vehicle and peeking into windows of a nearby home. The driver of the vehicle was found to be a real-estate agent.

Top secret
1:41 p.m.
— 3000 block of GMD. Vandalism. A woman noticed air coming through her convertible car’s roof and discovered a 3-inch hole had been cut in the canvas top. She believes a young man who had to move his car after parking in her parking spot may have been responsible for the damage.

On the loose
8:57 p.m.
— 500 block of Bayview Drive. Animal. A couple was walking their dog on a leash when a loose Doberman ran up to them. The owner of the Doberman apologized that the dog had gotten loose.

Fishing for some answers
8:59 a.m.
— 600 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Public Service. Two teenagers were warned against fishing in Key ponds, even though they told police they have been fishing here for years and that there are no signs displayed.

Stately manner
3:07 p.m.
— 500 block of Harbor Point Road. Public Service. A neighbor called to report some illegal mangrove cutting. The lawn service provided police with a state permit that allows them to perform the work.

Aug. 6
Traffic offender arrested
9:06 p.m.
— 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Traffic Violation. Police observed a man running a red light at Bay Isles Parkway and Gulf of Mexico Drive. He was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license and not paying court tickets that date back to 2007.

Nightcap nixed
2:37 a.m.
— 100 block of Broadway. Code Enforcement. Three women were warned about accessing the beach with alcoholic beverages.

Lovers’ quarrel
4:57 p.m.
— 500 block of Harbor Cove Circle. Disturbance. A man called to tell police he had been arguing all day with his girlfriend and wanted her to leave his house. Police arrived, and the girlfriend agreed to leave.

Aug. 8
Friendly atmosphere
3:45 a.m.
— 6800 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. A man in dark clothing was found walking along Gulf of Mexico Drive in the middle of the night. He told police he fell asleep on Beer Can Island earlier in the day and that his friends had left him there. Police gave him a ride to St. Armands Circle, where a family member was going to pick him up.

8:46 p.m.
— Intersection of GMD and Bay Isles Road. Suspicious Person. Police stopped a homeless man, who was riding a pink bicycle and weaving in the middle of the road. He said he was from Arizona and agreed to take the trolley back into town.

Sand sleeper
7:28 a.m.
— 5800 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. A man called to report someone sleeping in a beach chair on the beach. The man told police he was staying at a resort and had decided to sleep on the beach.

Trespassers receive warnings
11:58 p.m.
— 200 block of North Shore Road. Trespassing. Two men and a woman in possession of four 40-ounce beer bottles and several cans of beer were issued trespass warnings for accessing the beach via private condominium property. One of the men was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nesting mode
9:02 a.m.
— 6300 block of GMD. Code Enforcement. A neighbor called to report a mess on the beach from visitors staying at a rental cottage. The property manager told police she would have someone clear the beach at night so sea turtles could nest there.
