Oct. 5
Late-night garage sale?
12:08 a.m. — 600 block of Lyons Lane
. Security Check. Police noticed a garage door open with lights on inside. The driveway had numerous personal items on it. No one could be located, and extra patrol monitored the home for the rest of the night.

Campaign trail
9:06 a.m. — 600 block of Cedar Street.
Larceny. A Village resident told police that someone stole three Vote for Amendment 4 signs valued at $5 each that he had placed around his neighborhood.

No buried treasure
9:37 a.m. — 2700 block of Gulf of Mexico (GMD)
. Found Property. A woman found a partially buried black cooler with various keys on it. The cooler, which contained old newspapers, was thrown away, and the keys were sent to the police station.

Sandy steal
10:33 a.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road
. Lost Property. A woman told police that while she was vacationing on the Key, someone stole prescription medication from her purse while it was on the beach.

Wandering woman
11:43 a.m. — 2500 block of GMD
. Missing Person. Police searched for a missing Longboat Key woman who left for a walk on the beach more than three hours prior. She was found wandering on the beach and told police she became confused and was having trouble finding her condominium. She was returned home and greeted by her son.

Oct. 6
All that glitters …
3 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road
. Larceny. The manager of a hair salon told police that a former employee owed the salon $173.25 for taking 150 to 350 glitter tattoos from the business after she was fired.

Oct. 7
Smoky scene
5:35 a.m. — 5700 block of GMD
. Suspicious Circumstance. A man called police to report that someone driving a white van made a U-turn near the Centre Shops and almost struck him while he was on his bicycle. The van drove off and left the smell of marijuana smoke in its wake. The van could not be located.

Police assist motorist
6:25 a.m. — Off the Key.
Assist Other Agency. It was discovered that a man who drove into oncoming traffic and hit a vehicle head-on on Manatee Avenue West was having a diabetic reaction.

Noise violators warned
7:41 a.m. — 700 block of Old Compass Road. Code Enforcement. The drivers of two semi-trucks were warned not to unload cement blocks before 8 a.m., which violates the town’s noise ordinance.

Float your boat
8:06 a.m. — 500 block of Norton Street
. Boat. A couple awoke to find a flats boat floating in the canal behind their home. The boat was secured to their dock. The boat owner was located and retrieved the vessel, which had broken loose from its nearby boat lift.

Alarming instance
10:47 a.m. — 600 block of Cedar Street
. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman called police to report that she received a phone call from an alarm company alerting her that her neighbor’s home was being burglarized. Police found three sliding-glass doors open, but the home was found to be in order.

Oct. 8
Holy helping hand
12:49 a.m. — 6200 block of GMD
. Suspicious Circumstance. Police found a drunken man in a Key church after hours, and the reverend was called to assist the man, secure the chapel and take the man home.

After-hours party
4:28 a.m. — 100 block of Broadway
. Narcotics Violation. Three men and two women were found to be in possession of a bottle of rum early in the morning at the closed North Shore Road beach access. After police discovered a baggie of marijuana left behind on the beach, a woman confessed to owning it and received a notice to appear in court for drug possession.

Dirty dealings
10:38 a.m. — 600 block of Longboat Club Road.
Disturbance. A maintenance man and the general manager of a remodeling company got into an argument over who was responsible for pouring dirty tile water down a parking lot drain at a condominium.

That doesn’t fly
12:06 p.m. — 500 block of Birdie Lane
. Soliciting. Police called the number of a company listed on a flyer that was being placed on doorknobs in Country Club Shores and told the company to stop soliciting.

Boat possession disputed
2:53 p.m. — 700 block of Broadway
. Civil Disturbance. A man told police that a boat docked at a local restaurant had a lien on it and he had the right to it. Police told the man to take the issue up with the court system because he couldn’t verify proof of ownership for the vessel. The boat was taking on water and removed from the area by its rightful owner.

Suspicious appointment made
4:29 p.m. — 600 block of Lands End Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman told police that someone claiming to do work for Florida Power & Light made an appointment with her to come out and replace a smart energy box located on her water heater. When the man was a no-show, she called FPL, only to discover that no company was authorized by them to perform such work in the area.

Oct. 10
Stolen sign
10:50 a.m. — Intersection of GMD and Cutter Lane
. Larceny. Someone stole a $100 temporary road sign located at the intersection of Gulf of Mexico Drive and Cutter Lane.

Family dinner
8:53 p.m. — 800 block of Broadway.
Disturbance. Someone called to report an argument in the parking lot of a restaurant. A man told police he had an argument with his father-in-law, who had already left the scene.

Oct. 11
Pool cage door damaged
9:11 a.m. — 3300 block of Bayou Road.
Vandalism. A man told police someone attempted to enter his locked pool cage, causing $75 worth of damage to a screen door.

Cooking crisis
5:05 p.m. — 600 block of Norton Street
. Domestic Violence. A man called 911 to report that his wife would not allow him to make a sandwich. The wife told police that her husband was drunk again and gets “stupid” when he’s drinking. She also told police he would push her against a wall when he’s drinking. He was arrested for trying to walk away from police and transported to jail.
