Gang-free turf
10:35 a.m. — 6600 block of GMD
Vandalism: An officer discovered a utility box with a black graffiti tag on it and noticed it matched similar graffiti under the Longboat Pass Bridge. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office analyzed the sign and determined it was not gang-related.

June 11

Can't shut this
6:37 p.m. — 3700 block of GMD
Security Check: Police responded to a home with regard to an open door. The door appeared to have sprung open. A neighbor said the door had recently been replaced, which may have caused the incident.

June 12

Call of the wild
9:34 a.m. — 6800 block of Pine Street
Suspicious Circumstance: A woman called police to report that she heard what sounded like a man being attacked by a lion, or other member of the big cat family. She heard the noises coming from a thicket of mangrove trees. Officers noted that the woman seemed to have all of her mental faculties and did not appear to be under the influence of any narcotic or prescription drug at the time. Police did not find anyone in need of distress in the mangroves, but an officer did hear a large bull frog making noise.

June 14

Communication issues
9:41 a.m. — 5000 block of GMD
Suspicious Person: A woman reported that an unknown person entered her office during the night. She told police that she noticed Skype, a communication application, had appeared on her computer. When the officer told her that some computers are pre-programmed with the app, she said the volume on her headphones was also louder than usual.

Father Knows Best
2:54 p.m. — 3400 block of GMD
Public Service: Police responded to a report of a family locked out of their vehicle at a beach access. The family members were using a coat hanger to try to open the car. The officer told the father to try calling a locksmith, but he said he would keep trying with the coat hanger and call a professional if necessary.
