EAST COUNTY — Bulldozers are making way for a new assisted-living and memory-care center in East County.

Kronos Capital purchased a roughly 10-acre site in the 5400 block of Lena Road for $4 million in mid-June. Kronos has hired NDC Construction Co. to complete the new 98,000-square-foot facility.

Tampa-based Validus Senior Living will own and operate the property once it is completed.

“Lakewood Ranch is a very extraordinary demographic. We expect a lot of growth,” said Steve Benjamin, CEO and owner of Validus Senior Living, on why the company selected the site. “The demographics clearly support (this facility). It’s a win-win for the marketplace.”

Called InspiredLiving at Lakewood Ranch, the assisted-care and memory-care center will have a three-story assisted-living residential wing with 79 suites attached to a one-story, 43-unit memory-care residence. In total, it will have 122 units and 148 beds.

Studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments will be available.

Community amenities will include a wellness station, beauty and barber shops, a large dining area, a pool and patio and a 3-acre lake with a covered fishing pier and a path circling the lake, among other features.

NDC has started site construction, and crews will import fill and finalize clearing and grubbing this week, site supervisor Gerard Donnelly said.

Construction will take about 11 months.

“A year from now, we’ll be up and operational,” Benjamin said. “Four or five months out from (receiving our certificate of occupancy), we’ll have a sales (office).”
