Ten high school students from Community Youth Development participated in the inaugural Lawton Chiles Leadership Corps. Aug. 7 through Aug. 9, at the University of Central Florida.

The conference, organized by the Lawton Chiles Foundation, was designed to mobilize Florida’s high school and college students by harnessing their passion to improve the way Florida educates and cares for its children.

The highlight of the weekend was the address by former President Bill Clinton, who had just returned from a trip to North Korea to negotiate the release of two reporters.

“Leadership today is deciding how to solve these problems and then going out and doing it,” Clinton said. “You can make a better tomorrow for Florida.”
