With the field narrowed down to four and just more than a month until Election Day, the Sarasota City Commission race is heating up — and two neighborhood groups are teaming up to grill the candidates with questions.

On Monday, the Sarasota County Council of Neighborhood Associations and the Coalition of City Neighborhood Associations are hosting a joint forum for the four remaining candidates in the District 2 and 3 races. The event will begin with a social at 6:30 p.m., and the forum itself will begin at 7 p.m.

CONA President Kafi Benz said the collaborative forum was the first of its kind for the neighborhood associations. Both groups will have an opportunity to present questions to the candidates before the floor is opened to the audience. The event, held at the Sarasota Garden Club, is free and open to the public.

The two District 2 candidates that advanced to the May 12 election are attorney Liz Alpert and incumbent Eileen Walsh Normile. In District 3, incumbent Stan Zimmerman and attorney Shelli Freeland Eddie moved onto the runoff after neither candidate earned a majority of the votes.
