The town of Longboat Key on Tuesday took its first step toward making amendments to its Comprehensive Plan.

At its regular meeting Dec. 21, the Planning and Zoning Board moved forward to the Town Commission for its review in January an amendment to its Comprehensive Plan. Z

Town attorney David Persson and town special counsel Nancy Stroud presented a resolution that clarifies the uses, densities and intensities allowed in the land use categories of the Comprehensive Plan.

Specifically, the town is hoping to clarify for the Department of Community Affairs that its Comprehensive Plan already allows commercial densities in its planned unit developments.

A Tallahassee-based administrative law judge has scheduled May 3-6, 2011, as hearing dates regarding an ordinance that amended parts of Longboat Key’s code.

On Oct. 20, the DCA ruled that an ordinance amending parts of Longboat Key’s code is both consistent and inconsistent.

The Islandside Property Owners Coalition filed an administrative appeal July 14 to challenge code changes approved by the Town Commission on May 3 that benefit the approval of the Islandside renovation-and-expansion project.

The commission will review the amendment at its regular workshop at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011.

Further clarifications and changes to the Comprehensive Plan will be presented during multiple public hearings next year once this clarification amendment is submitted to the state.
