Community Youth Development honors hardworking youth and adults

Community Youth Development will host its 17th annual CYD Celebration Thursday, April 11, at the Sarasota Yacht Club, to recognize youth and adult volunteers and 16 years of service to Sarasota County.

CYD will present special awards during the ceremony, including the Shannon Staub “Excellence in Leadership” Scholarship to a senior who demonstrates outstanding leadership to their community; Karen Bogues Community Service Scholarship to a senior for their selfless service to CYD throughout their high school career; Evie Anderson Memorial Civic Engagement Scholarship, presented by the Council of Neighborhood Associations or CONA; Jack F. Greer and Melissa Scolaro Youth- Adult Partnership Awards to the adult and youth who best represent positive youth-adult partnership through their work with CYD; and Dennis S. Silver Volunteer of the Year Award will recognize the youth and adult who provide extraordinary service to CYD during the past year.

CYD aims to empower young people to be leaders in their community. They are funded through grants from the Sarasota Board of County Commissioners, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to provide pro-social, drug-free activities for youth.
