A two-part approach is likely for issues surrounding Longboat Key’s zoning code and Comprehensive Plan.
The commission reached consensus at yesterday’s workshop to work toward clarifying issues surrounding uses of planned-use developments (PUDs). The commission will also discuss ways to take a more holistic review of its Zoning Code and Comprehensive Plan at a future meeting.
Town Manager David Bullock suggested the two-phased approach at yesterday’s workshop, during which Town Attorney David Persson told the commission that town officials have been talking about the need to clarify the uses of PUDs for a long time. However, he described Judge Charles E. Robert’s recent ruling in which he granted a writ of certiorari in the challenge of the commission’s approval of the Longboat Key Club and Resort’s proposed $400 million Islandside project as the “exclamation point” in showing that need.
