The Sarasota City Commission meets this afternoon at City Hall to discuss alternatives to the city’s parking program now that the meters downtown have been bagged.

Specifically, if the city chooses to modify the two-hour parking program time from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, it will cost the city $6,390 to install 426 new signs. If the city keeps its present 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. hours, it will cost the city $2,550 to modify existing signs and install 170 new signs.

Parking services staff is also recommending the commission establish a parking advisory committee to discuss ways to further enhance the parking program moving forward.

At its regular meeting, which begins at 2:30 p.m. and has an evening session at 6 p.m., the commission will also:

Review:
• The Community Redevelopment Agency’s annual financial report for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2011.
• A presentation by the Business Ethics Alliance of Southwest Florida.

Hear:
• Hotel developers respond to concerns outlined by the city attorney in regard to two hotel proposals for the Palm Avenue hotel site.
• An appeal of the Planning Board’s decision to deny ad adjustment application regarding electronic signage for Crime Stoppers at 2000 Main Street.

Discuss:
• The inventory of city-owned real estate parcels.
