The Longboat Key Town Commission will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17 to appoint a successor for Commissioner Hal Lenobel, who resigned July 5.

The commission has 30 days to make an appointment, according to town code. If no appointment is made, the town must hold a special election within 90 days of the vacancy appointment.

Lenobel, 88, held one of two at-large seats, meaning that his replacement can reside anywhere within town limits.

Lenobel served as commissioner from 1997 to 2005 and took a three-year hiatus before returning in 2008.
