Commission hits brakes on parking meters

The Sarasota City Commission voted 3-2 to bag downtown parking meters until Oct. 1 at its July 5 meeting.

The hiatus will allow city leaders to hold workshops to seek input from downtown merchants, many of whom said their businesses have been negatively impacted since May 23, when the meter systems went into effect.
