Sarasota County government’s Civics 101 program still has a few seats open for the session that begins Sept. 8. Civics 101 is a 10-week session that gives residents an overview of operations and services of Sarasota County government. The classes, which give students a better understanding of the workings of county government, are held Thursday nights; some outdoor outings are also planned. The classes are free and are on a first-come, first served basis. Twenty-five people are selected for participation in the class, which is held in the fall and spring.

To fill out an application, visit www.scgov.net and click on “Neighborhood University (Citizens Academy)” under “Neighborhood Services” in the County A-Z list. For more information, contact the Sarasota County Call Center at 861-5000 or email [email protected].
