City holds budget workshop tomorrow

The Sarasota City Commission will meet 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 for its first informal budget workshop at City Hall.

It’s the first budget workshop of the season, in which commissioners will receive an overview of the current budget and the fiscal year 2012-13 budget.

Commissioners are anticipating a $5 million shortfall in next year’s budget and discussions are anticipated this summer on unfunded pension liabilities and potential employee cuts.

The public workshop will be held in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 1565 First St., Sarasota.
