The city of Sarasota wants to expand its roster of historic buildings, and its effort could add hundreds of new listings to the Florida Master Site File of historic places.

The city believes up to 350 properties were missed during a four-year historic-structure survey that ended in 2006. In that original work, buildings from the early settlement period through 1947 were surveyed. The time period for this latest count will be expanded to 1959.

The survey area runs from 10th Street south to Mound Street and U.S. 301 to the gulf.

The city will pay $30,000 to Archaeological Consultants Inc. to perform the survey.
