Central Library closes for makeover

East County bookworms who frequent a longstanding library in downtown Bradenton : It's getting a facelift.

Central Library, located at 1301 Barcarrota Ave., will be closed for three months for renovations.

While the library is closed, a temporary computer lab is open to the public, located at 305 15th St. W. The facility previously housed the Manatee Supervisor of Elections office.

The "pop up” center will provide Internet access for patrons filling out job and social services applications and forms, taking school tests and other necessary activities.

The computers will not be available for general web browsing.

The book drop at the Central Library will be closed, and patrons are welcome to return their materials to any of the county’s five branch locations.

Renovations include making aisles between rows of bookshelves more accessible, upgrading the alarm system and rearranging the placement of book genres.
