CDDs talk agreement on gate costs

At a joint workshop today, Lakewood Ranch Community Development District’s 2, 5 and 6 will discuss a draft of an interlocal agreement to share the cost of maintaining and operating the gate at Balmoral Woods Boulevard and the gate at Legacy Boulevard.

Currently, CDD 6 exclusively bears the cost of the Balmoral Woods Boulevard gate, while CDDs 2 and 5 share the cost of the Legacy Boulevard gate. Both gates are open to public traffic.

The CDDs will take a straw poll regarding the agreement today, at the 2:30 p.m. workshop at Lakewood Ranch Town Hall, before formally voting on the agreement at its regular board meetings March 20.

Under the most recent draft of the agreement, CDD 6 would pay 20.27% of costs related to the gatehouses, while districts 2 and 5 would pay 35.70% and 44.03%, respectively.

The interlocal agreement, if approved by the majority of CDD 2, 5 and 6 supervisors, would take effect Oct. 1.

In other news, Bob Burstein, CDD 6 chairman, said he is resigning as chairman, but will remain on the board.

Burstein’s four-year term as chair was set to expire in October.

“I felt, being in this position for almost four years, having the target pinned on me, somebody else should take that on as chairman,” Burstein said. “I’m tired.”

The board will elect a new chairman during its regular April meeting.
