A car that crashed into another at Ringling Boulevard and Palm Avenue careened onto a church’s lawn and stopped just short of hitting the building.

At about 10 a.m. this morning, a man driving a black Volkswagen was headed north on Palm Avenue. Police say he stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded into the intersection.

A woman driving west on Ringling Boulevard then cruised into the intersection and struck the Volkswagen. The woman’s silver Jaguar then continued onto the Church of the Redeemer’s lawn, stopping about two feet away from the building.

Neither driver was hurt, but the Volkswagen suffered significant damage and had to be towed.

The woman received a ticket for the accident because she hit the other driver after he was already in the intersection.
