U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Benjamin Grodi, son-in-law of Longboat Key residents Nelson and Laurin Goldner, was recently honored with the Meritorious Service Medal.

“As a marine, you’re proud of your accomplishments, but you know other people helped you as well,” said Grodi. “It’s not something you did on your own. Ultimately, this medal signifies what we did as a mission.”

Grodi has served eight tours, with the two most recent in Afghanistan. He received the medal for helping Afghans set up a justice system.
