The Westfield Southgate Mall will become an art workshop and exhibit for Canstruction Friday, Feb. 28 to Monday, March. 10.

Canstruction is a national program aimed to help feed the hungry through art. Sarasota design professionals including architects, engineers, interior designers and students will construct original sculptures made of cans showcased throughout the mall.

The sculptures will be in the running for awards such as, Best Use of Labels and Most Cans.

The Florida Gulf Coast chapter of the American Institute of Architects along with All Faiths Food Bank, Mattison’s and the Westfield Southgate Mall have partnered to bring Canstruction to Sarasota.

Construction of the can sculptures will take place throughout Friday, Feb. 28. On Saturday, March 1, the exhibit will officially open with an evening of art, food, drinks and music.

At the end of the event, all of the canned food will be donated to All Faiths Food Bank.
