+ Gold Coast Eagle helps dolphin at Mote
Gold Coast Eagle Distributing has donated $500 to help support an injured bottlenose dolphin, Edna, found stranded June 6, on Longboat Key.

“As a part of my company’s action green program, called ‘Better Company for a Better World,’ our Anheuser Busch — Gold Coast Eagle Distributing ‘Green Committee’ is happy to be able to help with this recovery effort,” says John Saputo, president/owner of Gold Coast Eagle.

The company’s initiative enables employees of Gold Coast Eagle to make a positive impact through community involvement and volunteering. This charitable donation will go toward veterinary care and medicine for Edna.

+ From the couch to running triathlons
Longboat Key Club and Resort hosts the annual Longboat Key Triathlon in October. In preparation for the upcoming October event, the club is offering members triathlon-training courses.

Two orientation sessions will talk about expectations for participating in a triathlon and how to compete. A USA Triathlon Level 1 coach and certified personal trainer, Eric Kahl, will offer training courses covering topics such as nutrition, interval training, biking, running and transitions. He will also cover mental strategies to help complete a triathlon. Both eight-week and 12-week sessions will be offered from $250 to $350. The orientation sessions Thursday, July 12 and Saturday, July 21 are both free. + Key Club hosts volunteer fair
Longboat Key Club and Resort hosted a volunteer fair Sunday, July 29, in the Harbourside Dining Room. Twenty-five organizations participated in the event. Attendees were treated to a buffet lunch while they learned about opportunities to volunteer with different organizations, including, but not limited to: Girls Inc., Mote Marine Laboratory, Sarasota Bay Estuary Program, Sunshine from Darkness and Tidewell Hospice.
