+ Habitat for Humanity receives $18,000 grant
Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County Inc. received an $18,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation Inc. This funding will be used toward the purchase of a RAM 2500 Promaster High Roof Cargo Van that will deliver building tools, supplies and construction materials to building sites spanning from Laurel to North Port.

“As we look to provide our community with much needed affordable housing, Bank of America’s investment in our organization will enable us to continue construction and assist families in South Sarasota County,” said Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County Inc. Executive Director Deidre L. Danmeyer.

Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County Inc. is a nonprofit corporation that builds or renovates homes to sell to qualified, low-income families in need of affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County Inc. serves the communities of Venice, Osprey, Laurel, Nokomis, Englewood and North Port.

+ Children’s World hosts 50th anniversary bash
Children’s World celebrated 50 years in business with a birthday party for the public Saturday, July 12. The celebration featured free activities, games, gifts and of course, cake.

Children’s World originally opened on the corner of Bahia Vista and Tamiami Trail, where the business stayed for almost 45 years. Five years ago, the business moved to its current location at 4525 Bee Ridge Road.

“We are thrilled to have been a part of the community for 50 years, and look forward to continuing to be a part of the community for many years to come,” said President Cynthia Holliday.

Children’s World is a specialty toy and game store with unique items for all ages. Children’s World also serves families with school uniforms for 30 schools and offers custom embroidery and shirt printing, as well as an in-store U.S. Post Office.

+ Katie Knight appointed to CareerEdge funders’ board
 United Way Suncoast’s Sarasota Area President Katie Knight has been appointed to the funders’ board of CareerEdge Funders Collaborative. Knight will work with fellow board members and CareerEdge leadership to continue to develop the workforce in the Manatee-Sarasota region.

 “Katie Knight’s passion and history for advancing charitable endeavors and goodwill in the Sarasota community is exemplary,” said Mireya Eavey, executive director of CareerEdge. “Because her values in workforce development align with ours, it’s an honor to have her on the CareerEdge funders’ board.”

CareerEdge’s mission is to help develop the region’s labor force.
