Burglars targeting vehicles in Lakewood Ranch

Lakewood Ranch Town Hall officials and the Manatee County Sheriff's Office are warning the community about a vehicle burglary trend in the northern part of Lakewood Ranch.

Suspects are targeting the area from Summerfield off Lakewood Ranch Boulevard to Greenbrook east of Lorraine Road. Suspects have smashed out windows to gain access, often stealing lap tops, other electronic equipment and purses that have been left out in view.

Law enforcement is asking residents to remove valuables from their vehicles and to report any suspicious activity by calling 911 as suspicious incidents occur.

"The sheriff's office will continue to take proactive measure to apprehend the person(s) responsible, however, partnership and participation from the community is extremely important in making it harder for the persons responsible to operate in our Lakewood Ranch Community," Lt. Rick Gerken said.
