LAKEWOOD RANCH — In December 2012, Britt Williams found a “hidden jewel” by the Manatee River.
With interest rates low, limited resale offerings and the demand for energy efficiency that comes with new home construction, Williams, president of Bruce Williams Homes, knew the time was right to become the exclusive home builder for the remaining home sites in the East County’s Winding River community.

Bruce Williams broke ground on its new model, The Blue Cypress, this month. Construction should be finished in August.

“We were looking for a new community — one that is unique with a niche,” Williams said. “The (original) developer (Larry D’Urso) did a great job maintaining the community in the downturn.

The Blue Cypress, once finished, will have three beds and three bathrooms with two covered lanais. It will also feature a three-car garage and a bonus room.

Bruce Williams is offering three standard plans, and buyers can also have their home customized.

Williams said the homes are geared toward young families and empty-nesters, alike.

“Larry (D’Urso) is a good developer and a good man,” he said. “There’s not really much we want to change about this place.”

Building on the 107-acre Winding River community began in 2005, but only 14 homes were completed. Bruce Williams will develop the community’s remaining 48 lots.

Winding River residents have access to the Manatee River by way of a private, resident-only boat launch.  The homes will range from 2,600 to 5,000 square feet with home prices starting in the low $400,000s.

The community is located on the north side of Upper Manatee River Road, just past Christian Retreat’s campus.
