+ Town rules campaign sign wording must be changed
Town Clerk Trish Granger informed District 1 commission candidate Lee Pokoik Dec. 17 that campaign signs he has placed around town do not comply with state election requirements.

The signs read: “Lee Pokoik Town Commissioner.” Granger says the signs must read “Lee Pokoik for Town Commission District 1” so that incumbency is not implied.

Pokoik fixed the signs by using a black magic marker.

Said Pokoik: “You need a magnifying glass to read it, but the signs are fixed. There’s no requirement in state statutes that say how large the print must be.”

+ Commission writes pension scorecards
The Longboat Key Town Commission used a grading scale of one to five to answer a list of questions for its pension actuary to see what kind of pension plans the commission wants moving forward.

The answers the commission provided, the actuary said, indicate its current pension plan represents what it wants.

The commission will review an actuary report in January that could provide future cost-saving measures.
