Four female cadets in Braden River High School’s JROTC program have accomplished a school first.

Students Kristen Colman, Semaj Dunwoody, Sommer Godshall and Sarah Jurgovan have been selected to participate in summer academies at service academies.

Each service academy conducts a weeklong seminar to show select high school students the benefits and the high quality of service academy education. Only 700 participants were selected nationwide and students were evaluated on grade point averages, test scores, class rank, extracurricular activities and an informal interview.

“The Pirate family is extremely proud of these young ladies as they are all in the JROTC program at Braden River High School,” Lt. Col. Jay Bradin, senior Army Instructor for the JROTC said. “They were selected because they are smart, physically fit, dedicated and willing to take on tough challenges. These young ladies will represent us well at their respective summer seminars.”

Colman, Dunwoody and Jurgovan all were selected for the U.S. Air Force Academy, while Godshall was selected for the U.S. Military Academy.
