Longboat Key resident David Brenner resigned his post as chairman of the Longboat Key, Lido Key, St. Armands Key Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Council Friday, May 1, according to interim chamber president Tom Aposporos.

Brenner confirmed the resignation Monday but declined further comment.

Members of the commission have expressed their dissatisfaction with Brenner’s chamber post, which they believe conflicts with his post as chairman of the town’s Planning and Zoning Board.

Brenner is hoping to be re-appointed to another three-year term on the planning board. Brenner's P&Z board term expires May 19.

It’s expected that Brenner vacated his EDC post in anticipation of tonight’s 7 p.m. Longboat Key Town Commission regular meeting.

Brenner was the first chairman of the chamber’s Economic Development Council, which was formed in February 2008. A replacement for Brenner has not been named.
