Braden River High student Anna Zimmerman took her passion for science to new heights.

She won Best of Show at the 2016 Lockheed Martin Manatee Regional Science and Engineering Fair, held Feb. 2, at Manatee High School.

Along with bragging rights, she also received a $250 savings bond, an Orion Spacecraft replica and she will also present her project at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair May 8 through May 13 in Phoenix.

Her project, titled "A Method of Encoding and Decoding Information in DNA Sequences That Include Error Correction,” showed how she was able to create messages based on codes, or letters, found in DNA.

Zimmerman was among 17 first-place winners selected to represent the county at the 61st annual state Science and Engineering Fair, slated for March 29 through March 31 in Lakeland.
